A man allegedly suffering from mental illness hacked to death his own relatives in a town of Aklan province, Central Philippines, Saturday.
Five persons were killed and one was seriously wounded when 27-year old suspect, Errol Roldan hacked them to death around 5:30 a.m at Brgy. Bulwang, Municipality of Numancia.
Police said Roldan, entered the compound of his relatives and went inside the two houses and repeatedly hacked the victims using a machete.
Fatalities in one house were identified as Salvacion Rivas, 84, her son Baltazar Rivas, 52, while Rosa Rivas, 65 was seriously wounded.
The suspect then entered the adjacent house and also hacked the spouses Anunsacion Rivas and Luciano Rivas, including their child Felicidad. Felicidad was rushed to the hospital but was later declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Numancia Municipal Police said that the victims suffered several hack wounds on their heads and different parts of their body. The wounded Rosa Rivas remains under critical medical condition and is confined in a government hospital in the province capital Kalibo.
The suspect did not resist arrest when authorities responded to the scene of the incident.
Police said the suspect was able to enter two houses and killed and wounded the victims because they were sleeping. Even the victims in the adjacent house were not able to notice Roldan was already on a hacking spree and killing their relatives on the other house.
Roldan who was previously employed at Kalibo International Airport went into depression after allegedly been abandoned by his wife together with his four children.
It was also told that the suspect was recently admitted to a mental institution in the province of Iloilo after he set his own house on fire.
