Insecure teen girls are increasingly posting videos of themselves on Youtube, asking people to comment whether they are ugly or beautiful.
Girls as young as 12 and 13-year-old are posting videos of themselves, striking different poses and showing their assets while asking strangers for their comments regarding their looks. These videos are being posted under the title "Am I Ugly?" This is a very dangerous trend, since they are becoming easy targets of pedophiles and sex offenders.
When these girls show their insecure side to people from all over the world, it gives out a very clear message to those who want to take advantage of such girls that they are not sure of themselves and that they will welcome advances. Sex offenders and pedophiles then contact these girls secretly by sending private messages and tell them that they are beautiful. This way, girls think that sex offenders and pedophiles are really their admirers and fall for their trap.
This new "Am I Ugly" video trend is showing the dark side of the internet and many people are asking the question whether these vulnerable girls should have such unrestricted internet access. When these videos started popping up, parents started checking their daughters' internet profiles, and some found really disturbing things. It is always advisable to constantly monitor your children's internet profiles and keep reminding them that their families love them the most and what the strangers say does not matter.
"That's terrible, my daughter is only 7 and I hope that she never feels the need to do that," wrote Bobbie Jo Dawson, a mother of 7-year-old girl. "I've always taught her that natural beauty is true beauty and tell her several times a day how beautiful and intelligent she is... I wish the parents of these girls would take some time and spend with them and let them know how truly wonderful and beautiful they are and that no strangers opinion will ever be worth more than their own self respect."
