The icon of the struggle against apartheid and Former South African President Nelson Mandela, 93, hospitalized on Saturday in Johannesburg hospital due to abdominal pain.

"Madiba has had a longstanding abdominal complaint and doctors feel it needs proper specialist medical attention,"South African President Jacob Zuma announced today in a statement,

Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize 1993,remains under medical supervision since he was hospitalized for a week on January 2011 in a hospital in Johannesburg, affected by a respiratory complication, he appeared last time in public in July 2010,the final of the Football World Cup in South Africa.

Mandela led for decades the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. From 1964 to 1990 he was in prison , in 1994 Nelson Mandela became the first black president of South Africa.

"We wish him a speedy recovery and assure him the love and good wishes of all South Africans and people from all over the world." said Jacob Zuma , according to BBC.
