What a way to start off this season's NBA All-Star Weekend in Orlando. At midnight this morning, Nike was supposed to release 200 new sneakers at the Foot Locker at the Florida Mall in Orlando.
The shoes are called the Foamposite Galaxy. They retail for $220, but the kicker is that the shoes glow in the dark. Although only 200 were going to be sold, the parking lot was crowded with people filled with anticipation.
However, their hopes were dashed when the entire event was cancelled. A near riot almost broke out as the crowd began to rush the store. Deputies in full riot gear were able to push the crowd back. The crowd dispersed, but they came back after partying all night at 6:30 am. Once again, police held their ground.
