Dutch Queen Beatrix and Prince Johan Friso's wife Mabel leave University Hospital in Innsbruck

It was a freak accident – an avalanche buried the 43-year old Dutch Prince Johan Friso under 30-feet of snow. He had gone on a skiing holiday in the Austrian resort of Lech.

He lay under the huge layer of snow (30 meters by 40 meters) for more than 15-minutes before he was rescued – thanks to a beeper he had attached to his body.

Another 40-minutes went to allow him to recover to some extent and taken to a hospital in Innsbruck.

But – he still continues to remain in coma.

In the opinion of the medical team, his recovery would be a long drawn-out process and, in the worst possible scenario, he might not recover at all. MRI scans have revealed major damages to his brain.

The Prince is the second son of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

Let us join in wishing the Prince a speedy recovery.
