The death toll of the Costa Concordia disaster now stands at 32 with the divers of the salvage crew finding eight more dead bodies from the wreckage – one of these is presumably of a 5-year old Italian girl who had been reported to be missing.
The bodies of a woman, a girl, a man and a person whose sex has not yet been established due to the decomposed state of the bodies have been found. Another four bodies have yet to be removed. The bodies would be shifted to hospital in the mainland for identification purposes.
The salvage operations off the Tucson Islands are hampered due to deteriorating weather conditions. Two thirds of oil from the ship have been removed and the remaining would be removed once the weather clears.
Captain Francesco Schettino, skipper of the ill fated cruise liner is under house arrest on charges of manslaughter at his home near Naples.
It might be recalled that the cruise ship with more than 4200 passengers had struck the coral reefs near the Tuscan Island of Giglio Islands and capsized on 13th of January 2012.
