Lagos police will crush crime in 24 hours...if- DCO Sobulu

By EMMANUEL uDOM

The police in Lagos, south-west Nigeria on Wednesday boasted that it has the capacity to crush and frustrate any criminal acttivities from any part of the state within 24 hours, provided prompt and timely information is made available to the police.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos, Tunde Sobulu, deputy commisssioner of police, Lagos state police command said that the recent clash between factions of the dreaded NURTW in Lagos Island was due to the moves to control some parks in the area.

He however frowned at the media reports which alleged that some persons were killed during the bloody cross-fire between factions of the union, insisting that there are not official records in any police stations, area commands or the headquarters in the state on the klling.

According to him, though one person, who is widely regarded as the leader of one of the factions of the union was arrested, investigated and has since been charged to court in connection with the incident, the police is effectivley on ground as far as securtiy situations in the state is concerned.

At this point, the crime buster challenged Lagosians to give information to the police and see whether or not the information will be acted upon. If any person gives information to the police and it is not acted upon within 24 hours, call me a bastard, Sobulu said.

The parley with journalists was triggered off by the re-occuring clash between factions of NURTW, which give the impresissions that some top police officers may have compromised in their professional duties, having alllegedly collected bribes from some top officials of the union.

But, Sobulu, who is due to retire from the Nigeria police force around December this year, puntured that angle, insisting that police offficers in Lagos are doing their very best, within available resources and motivated to combat the ever-galloping crime waves in the former capital of Nigeria.
