The Presidential campaign for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has provided American citizens at least one major gaffe per week. Romney's campaign did not disappoint this week either as a key person on his campaign resigned earlier today at a press conference in Pinal County, Arizona.
Pinal County Police Sheriff Paul Babeu was responding to allegations that he was involved in a homosexual relationship with a man he threatened to deport. The Sheriff has been known in the past for his strong anti-immigration stance. He even appeared in the infamous commercial for current Arizona Sen. John McCain in which McCain said "finish the damn fence."
The only thing that Babeu admitted to was that he is gay. Well, he had to admit to that since a picture was leaked showing him rubbing the chest of another man.
Having this man as a part of the campaign proves that Romney once again lacks sound judgment. I know that you cannot know everything about a person, but the Sheriff should have been vetted some more before being allowed to be a part of the campaign. Plus, this fiasco happened in Arizona. The next Republican debate will be on Wednesday in Arizona. As social issues have moved to the forefront in the 2012 GOP Republican Primary, that means that the Santorum Surge will definitely continue. Before you go to the voting booth, add this gaffe to all of the other gaffes that have come out of the Romney camp. Keep in mind that a vote for Mitt Romney is a wasted vote.
