The Brisbane Story Bridge over the Brisbane River should be renamed ‘the Bridge of Death’ – a man reportedly threw his toddler into the waters from the bridge and then jumped in himself to end his life.
The man had arrived at the scene on his motorcycle, left it at the side of the footpath and committed the murder and suicide.
The police have descended on the scene and are searching for clues after cordoning off the bridge which has resulted in traffic snarls.
It was the 3rd incident of suicide or attempted suicide from the bridge in the past two years.
Last year in September, a woman took this extreme step after murdering her own teenage daughter. And – a couple of months later, a man scaled to the top of the bridge in order to protest on some personal issues.
Bridges are always an attractive proposition for those who plan to commit suicide – it happens all over the world and is difficult to control. Only – those who use the bridge should be alert to possible suicide prone individuals – their tendency would usually be revealed through their actions and mannerisms.
