Jefferson Parish jailer taken into custody for punching a prisoner

News sources Associated Press and nola.com. Metairie Louisiana. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office (JPSO) has taken into custody a jailer after he allegedly punched a prisoner in a Jefferson Parish prison.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato said in a news release his office arrested Jimmy Brown 21, a resident of Metairie Louisiana has been charged with malfeasance of office and simple battery.

Fortunato said Brown was employed by the Jefferson Parish Sheriiff's Office since February 2011 was terminated after the incident by sheriff Newell Normand.

Fortunato said a prisoner filed a complaint that he was punched by Brown several times during a routine roll call check without any physical provocation. Brown had exchanged some words with the prisoner earlier in the week.

Fortunato said the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office criminal investigation bureau investigated the complaint from the prisoner.
