Last year, I put together a biographical profile for All Voices on The Gracie Family. Now, I am a Gracie white belt studying at Evolution Training in Houma, LA. It's a Dave Caramello Guerrilla Ju Jit Su affiliate.
I noticed that I am one of maybe four women in the class. Two of the women take classes with their husbands, and the other, I just met so I am not sure if she takes the class with her husband or not.
As a single woman in this class, it was somewhat of a shock about how in your face Gracie Ju Jit Su is. The honor and respect that you have to show not just for yourself but for your classmates is more demanding than any other martial art that I've studied. This is the third that I've practiced.
So I decided that I will promote Gracie Strong and FightChix, a site dedicated to Female practioners of BJJ and Female MMA fighters on my blog and I am considering starting a facebook group for female athletes. I have a name in mind, I just have to speak to the person who may or may not be copyrighting the catch phrase.
My blog is kristinastancil.tumblr.com I have started the #GracieStrong challenge and hopefully Mestre Renzo will release Gracie Strong shirts on his site www.renzogracie.com as well.
