Syrian Canadian Council-Faisal Alazem comments about Syria and message to Ottawa 10-02-2012
Syrians are now living under a double dictatorship, the dictatorship of the Assad family and the dictatorship of the VETO of the UN Security Council. Russia and China used their VETO power to stop a resolution condemning the gross human rights violations by the Assad regime and to demand Bashar Alassad to step down and relinquish power to his deputy to enable dialogue with the opposition and transition Syria into a country of law and democratic institutions. Unfortunately, the Russian government is trying to equate the regimes barbaric crackdown using 17 intelligence bodies, its militia thugs known as "Shabeeha", paramilitary, security apparatuses, republican guard and armed forces with civilian peaceful protesters and army defectors that are protecting them. The city of Homs has been under constant bombing and tank shelling with almost 600 killed and more then 2000 injured since the Russian and Chinese license to kill VETO. The international community cannot stay silent while we watch a dictator use his entire military force to crush an uprising requesting dignity and freedom. The SCC thanks western governments and the international community for condemning the regimes violence. But while world leaders are giving condemnation speeches, the Assad regime is killing in average 100 civilians per day. The Syrian people are now caught in the Russian and Chinese cold war against Western powers that used their VETO to neutralize the UN Security Council. The international <b>...</b>
