In several countries like UK, U.S., Canada and Australia sham marriages are now considered as a crime under immigration department. A general rule of two years remained in wedlock is mandatory to follow before normalization.

Often respondents and foreign applicants arrange a "marriage of convenience" - that is to say, a marriage or common-law whose sole purpose is to enable the sponsored spouse or partner of immigrate to several states.

Respondents must meet the financial needs of their spouse or three years, even if the relationship fails. If your spouse is receiving social assistance benefits, you will have to repay and you can not sponsor anyone else until the debt is repaid.
