Qantas strands passengers in Perth

"It currently appears that there are no funds available to meet operational expenses so flights will be suspended immediately," said Air Australia in a joint statement Friday after it went into administration and grounded its fleet stranding about 4,000 passengers in Hawaii, Thailand, Indonesia and Australia, CNN said.

The airline’s statement also said it was highly unlikely there would be any flights ‘in the short to medium term’ that passengers were advised to make alternative arrangements.

Passengers with insurance might be able to make refunds but those without the relevant insurance who paid in cash would be considered disqualified.

Michael Smith, a spokesman for KordaMentha, the new Air Australia administrator, said the airline had sold 100,000 tickets for future flights, but with no indication when the company's operation would resume, the sold tickets would end up worthless.
