You might not see all the same four faces when you call the ghostbusters this time. In a recent talk, ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd indicated that he and co-star Rick Moranis had been actively working on bringing "Ghostbusters 3" to the theaters for a couple of years and this time they have planned to go ahead with or without Bill Murray, though he respects his decision not to be casted in the sequel.
Amidst rumors that Murray tore the script into pieces and commented that “No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts,” Aykroyd said that “Bill Murray is not capable of such behavior. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in "Ghostbusters 3" has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work!”
Aykroyd confirmed that Moranis is going to play a major role in the film if they get the "Ghostbusters 3" script right. “None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant.” As for Bill Murray, Aykroyd continues to hint that he might be looking for someone else to replace him, rather than dropping his part altogether. However, the idea of not having the funniest guy in the comedy has not left the fans much thrilled. After all, we all agree that "Ghostbusters" was all about cracking jokes and Murray was the best.
On one hand, fans fear that the much-belated continuation will only tarnish the reputation and the affectionate nostalgia we have developed over time, recommending to leave "Ghostbusters" the way it is preserved in our memories. On the other hand, there are fans who don’t mind a return of the plot if it’s done the right way. “If they can't get the original cast back together, OK, reboot it completely,” says a fan. Start over with some new guys.”
There are also concerns whether Murray's former flame in the series, Sigourney Weaver, will return as Dana Barrett or not. When asked, the Oscar-nominated actress said she’s open to reprising her role but she still needed to see the actual script before making up her mind. “Maybe it’s not a good sign,” she said.
