It is believed that the “Honfleur” left Russell in the Bay of Islands last Wednesday, skippered by a local man with four Russians on board. The yacht was found abandoned with the motor running 11 miles east of Mayor Island off the coast of Tauranga today spinning in circles at low speed with no one on board.

Police and Coastguard members have boarded the Honfleur which is currently being sailed back to Tauranga. Because the fate of the crew and passengers is unknown the Maritime New Zealand Rescue Co- ordination Centre is on stand-by.
