Bobby Brown was performing at the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi late night on Saturday Feb 11, 2012 just few hours after Houston was found dead in her Beverly Hilton hotel bathtub. When Brown heard the tragic news, he broke down and sobbed, and had to stop more than once to get a grip on himself. It was admirable that he still managed to carry on with the show which he was performing with his own band, the New Edition.

PEOPLE via AceShowbiz quoting Brown said “First of all, I want to tell you that I love you all,” said the 43-year to the crowd. Then blowing a kiss upwards into the sky, amidst tears he shouted “Second, I would like to say, I love you Whitney.” Later he shared with the crowd that the hardest thing for him to do, was to come up on the stage and continue performing after hearing such devastating news.

According to US Weekly, the concertgoers stood by him and applauded him loudly understanding the fact that he arrived late due his grief. Particularly, while singing the song 'Tenderoni' the artist could not control his tears and so he invited the public to join him in singing along. It was at this point that he could no longer control his overwhelming emotions and so walked off, with the rest of the show winding up quickly.

Said one concertgoer Don Scott “Bobby asked us to pray for his daughter and to pray for him … When he cried, I could feel the pain he was suffering, because he could not be with his daughter tonight, the time she needs him the most. I cried just watching Bobby speak,” he added.

Even Scott’s wife Lagina was deeply moved who said that Bobby actually sang for Whitney and when he shed tears the crowds cheered him on. “He was so awesome. He performed his heart out, even saying, ‘I love you Whitney’,” she added.

It is common knowledge that the two had a troubled married life allegedly due to the couple’s excessive drug use and other marital problems. Bobby who has often been accused of being responsible for Houston’s downfall; himself was arrested for drugs once, while Whitney had to check into a rehab program twice.
