It was time for a reunion between Patrick Evra (Manchester United) and Luis Suarez (Liverpool) who they had become face-to-face for the first time since the racial slurs uttered by the Uruguayan on the French October 15, 2010. Suarez was given an eight-match ban for the insults.
At the meeting yesterday between the teams the former Ajax player has clearly not learned the lessons of his suspension because he simply refused to shake the hand offered by Patrice Evra before the match. Evra then grabbed Suarez forearm and shoulder while Rio Ferdinand also refused to shake hands with the Uruguayan attacker.
But after one day from that match, the Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez issued an apology today on Liverpool's website saying " 'I've not only let him down, but also the Club and what it stands for and I'm sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened , I should have shaken Patrice Evra's hand before the game and I want to apologise for my actions," according to DailyMail.
This act caused displeasure in the UK and prompted the Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said that the Uruguayan was "a disgrace to Liverpool."
In the end, Liverpool lost 2-1 scored by Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez,Patrice Evra was not so shy to express his joy, slightly provocative to Suarez.
