China has realized that gifting giant pandas is a fantastic option to make friends and influence people. The latest on the list of Panda diplomacy is Canada. In December last, China had loaned two Pandas to Scotland.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada is now finalizing a deal with Chinese President Hu Jintao for two giant pandas for the two zoos in Calgary and Toronto.
Through this deal, two giant pandas would be loaned to the zoos by China for a period of 5-years each. These pandas would arrive from the panda preservation centre in the southwestern metropolis of Chongqing where they are presently located.
Calgary had received two pandas on loan earlier during 1988 Winter Olympics which were held there – the animals were huge attractions and visitors to the zoo would wait for hours to get a glimpse of the lovable creatures.
