When his saxophone player an friend of many years = Clarence Clemons – died last year “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen was unsure as to whether he wanted to continue; but continue he did. This Sunday Springsteen and his E Street Band will perform at the annual Grammy Awards presentation and in March he will kick off a world tour with a new saxophone player.
Springsteen is replacing his old friend with not one but two saxophone players; one of them is a member of the family – Clarence Clemons’ nephew Jake Clemons. The son of a Marine Corps bnd director, Clemons’ first professional gig was playing at one of the inaugural celebrations for President Bill Clinton in 1992. The other sax man is an E Street Band alumni of sorts; Eddie Manion has been a part of the band in an on and off fashion for a number of years.
Also joining “The Boss” and the E Street Band on tour are trumpet players Curt Ramm and Barry Danielien, vocalists Cindy Mizelle and Curtis King, and trombone player Clark Gayton.
Springsteen is launching his tour in March in support of his seventeenth album “Wrecking Ball” which will be released on March 6.
