Jay-Z performed his latest hit, “Glory,” about his 1-month old daughter with Beyonce Knowles, Blue Ivy Carter at the famed venue Carnegie Hall Monday night.
"I didn't think I was going to make it through that one," he said, sounding emotional. "That was tough."
The veteran rapper is the second hip-hop act to perform at Carnegie Hall. In 2001, Wyclef Jean performed with, and Whitney Houston.
Fellow New Yorkersand Nas joined the Grammy-winning rapper and backed by an orchestra of 30-plus and a band that included of The Roots and neo-soul singer Bilal. The show was for charity planned this week.
There were about 2,800 people attended the show. Tickets were sold to the public but most were offered in a private sale, ranging from $500 to $2,500. The proceeds will go to the United Way of New York and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, which helps low-income students cover college costs. Students from his foundation also were there to watch the show.
