A 6.8 magnitude tremor rattled Cebu City at 11:35 a.m. today which lasted more than a minute. It hits the neighboring Dumaguete City, Negros Island with 7.0 magnitude resulting to one death when a concrete wall collapsed on a boy, according to reports. The epicenter of the quake was somewhere in the Tanon Straith a channel between Negros and Cebu.
People in panic rushed out from offices, high rise buildings, schools, residences, public buildings, including SM shopping mall, Cebu Business Park (Ayala) and other nearby shopping centers. All schools were closed temporarily due to the temblor that hit the city.
No reported damages of property, death or injuries in Cebu City and its surruonding towns. Authorities are still monitoring and investigating the effect of the quake. The possibility of Tsunami is remote for the islands affected are situated in the central part of the Visayas region.
