Bible Verse of the Day
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Over the past few days we have been taking a look at this verse; Thursday we began to dig a little deeper by looking at the root Greek word for the word true above. We found it meant many things but reflected mainly on living in God’s truth and being authentic. Friday we continued by looking at the word noble; which in simple terms means taking the high road in the situation of life. Monday we delved into the word right and found that it means to think, feel and act conformed to the will of God. Tuesday we continue with the word pure which means to be pure of every fault.
Today we will look at two more with the words Lovely and Admirable.
The Greek word for lovely is Prosphiles pronounced pros-fee-lace’ and means pleasing or acceptable.
The Greek word for admirable is Euphemous pronounced yoo’-fay-mos which means:
1. sounding well
2. speaking auspiciously- Favorable, prosperous, promising success.
3. uttering words of good omen (anything perceived or happening that is believed to be true at an event or circumstance in the future)
Ok so what do these mean as we try to apply them to our lives?
Lovely to me means to walk in good character to focus on doing our best to do what is pleasing and acceptable to God, but what is pleasing and acceptable to God? Jesus boils it down to simply this….love God and love others
Admirable in this context is living life with the perspective that no matter what happens God is in the midst of bringing good from it (redeeming). It does not mean we will always understand why things happen or how things will work out in the future, but rather living with the perspective that God’s heart is good towards us and that He desires good things in our lives.
Walk true, noble, right, pure, lovely (pleasing) and admirable (in a positive outlook) today for it is the road to the abundant life.
