‘‘History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline. There has been either a spiritual awakening to overcome the moral lapse, or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster. –Douglas MacArthur

General MacArthur’s study of world history and the chronicles of military conquest provided him with all the reasons why a nation might fall.

In the pages of Scripture and in the annals of history, we repeatedly see once-great nations eventually destroyed by moral decay.

The Roman Empire fell because the moral decline of its rulers and the people. Drunkenness and debauchery characterized their culture. Ultimately, it led to their destruction.

Following the attacks on the Twin Towers, a couple of well-known ministers were excoriated for suggesting the incident could have been the judgment of God.

Nevertheless, it is certainly a principle of Scripture that the Father chastises His children when they depart from following His statutes.

Perhaps the best illustration is the nation of Israel.

Despite the parting of the Red Sea and God’s deliverance from the Egyptians, Israel soon forgot the goodness bestowed upon them. Time-after-time, they turned away from God and suffered under his judgment.

However, the Loving Father always stood ready to happily receive his children whenever they returned to Him. No doubt He would do the same for America, as well.

America’s history is His story!
