Sean Penn honored as Ambassador at large for Haiti

The U.S Hollywood star, actor Sean Penn, has been named ambassador at large from the Haitiian President, Michel Martelly, for Haiti in recognition of his humanitarian work since the 2010 earthquake.

Martelly expressed his appreciation and honored Sean Penn for his efforts for the island.

Martelly jokingly said, "only downside" to Penn's new position is that he can no longer call the actor by his first name. Now Penn will be called "Ambassador."

After the devastating earthquake that left millions homeless, sick and dead, Sean Penn started a non-profit organization, J/P Haitian Relief Organization, is to oversee a settlement camp where thousands of people displaced by the disaster and saving lives.

As per the website, principle efforts include providing emergency medical and primary care services, delivering badly needed medical equipment and medicine, rubble removal facilitating community regeneration, management of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, distributing food and water purification systems, improving communication systems, and developing housing and education facilities.

To help lift the nation of Haiti out of poverty and give the Haitian people a better life.
