Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum is taking some time off from his campaign in the GOP contest to spend time with his daughter, Isabella, who is admitted to hospital. Isabella is about three years old and is suffering from the genetic disease of Trisomy 18. She is in the Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia.

The commitments for Sunday have been cancelled by Santorum. “Rick and his wife Karen are admitting their daughter Bella to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia this evening. The campaign will cancel Rick’s upcoming Sunday morning Florida campaign schedule. However Rick intends to return to Florida and resume the campaign schedule as soon as is possible,” Hogan Gidley, national communications director, said in the statement regarding the update.

Rick Santorum has talked about his daughter publicly a number of times. He has also said that he wants to run for the presidential election because he feels a sense of responsibility to work for the nation so that the future generation gets a better place to live.

"I don't know whether her life is going to be measured – it's always been measured – in days and weeks. Yet here I am. ... because I feel like I wouldn't be a good dad if I wasn't out here fighting for a country that would see the dignity in her and every other child," he said in his statement earlier.

Santorum has always tried to keep his daughter away from his busy and tiring routine so that she doesn’t suffer due to it. She accompanied him on his trips only a couple of times. His busy schedules sometimes made it difficult for him to give proper time to Isabella, but he always made an effort to be with her when she needed her father.

Santorum was going to appear on “Meet the Press” of NBC, but his appearance has been cancelled due to his daughter’s illness. Also, he was supposed to visit the Miami church, and that visit has also been cancelled. Elizabeth, his elder daughter who is twenty years old, is attending the campaign in Sarasota and Punda Gorda this Sunday in his place. He is expected to return soon, but the exact details have not been provided.
