Police use flashbang grenades and tear-gas against Occupy Oakland

Over 100 Occupy protesters were arrested in the city of Oakland after they had tried to enter the City Hall and a convention centre.

Police had fired tear gas and smoke grenades in order to disperse the crowds who in return had thrown rocks, bottles and other objects.

The Californian port city had been the scene of the same clashes that had happened last October. In the month of December, the protesters had occupied the port.

The movement had started with Occupy Wall Street in New York last year and now has spread.

The protest march had first moved into the empty Henry Kaiser convention centre, police had reported.

Some of the protestors had started tearing down the perimeter fencing and vandalizing the construction equipment.

When protesters had overlooked an order to leave, they had been dispersed using tear gas and smoke.

The protestors had also broken into the City Hall and a nearby YMCA building in the centre of Oakland.
