Kim Richards has finally revealed the reason behind her trip to a rehab facility in early December. The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” cast-member admitted to her alcohol addiction in upcoming, three-part second season reunion episode, in which she was interviewed separately from the rest of the cast.
Kim Richards, whose erratic behavior on the reality TV show led many to assume that it was the fallout with younger sister Kyle that led her to seek professional help, confessed for the first time on the show’s reunion episode that she was being treated for alcoholism during her stint in rehab.
Although Kim Richards was not present at the show’s reunion, she taped a separate solo interview with Bravo's Andy Cohen, explaining why she checked into a rehab facility as the show neared its end this season.
“I’m an alcoholic,” the 47-year-old aunt of Paris Hilton admitted to "Watch What Happens" host Andy Cohen. “I’m an alcoholic.”
People magazine first posted the exclusive video featuring Kim Richards’ confession – her first TV interview since her rehab stay. The reality star had previously admitted on the show that she had consumed a cocktail of prescription pills, including Lexapro, Trazadone and Topamax.
Kim Richards was also involved in a messy fight with her younger sister, Kyle, during last season's finale, when the latter called her a delusional and demented alcoholic, adding, "Mom had to die and leave this on my shoulders!”
It was reported back in November that Kim's behavior on “Real Housewives” made the show’s officials consider giving her the boot, unless she checked into a rehab facility.
“She may have to go to rehab in order to save her job on the show,” a source close to Kim Richards spilled to Star Magazine at the time. “People involved with the show are concerned and might have to step in. Friends and family don’t talk about what’s going on with Kim.”
More recently, Kyle Richards discussed the matter in an appearance on “Good Morning America”. The 42-year-old reality actress revealed, “It wasn’t about the Housewives,” referring to Kim’s decision to enter rehab, adding, “I think it was just an accumulation of things.”
“It was our family and sitting down, and she really felt it was time,” she added. “I have to give her credit for making that decision on her own.”
“I’m proud to hear her say that,” Kyle Richards said of her sister’s confession. “I’m proud of her. I know that’s the biggest step in recovery, to admit that.”
The first of the three-part “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” reunion special airs Monday at 9/8c on Bravo.
