PHILIPPINE NAVY DISPATCHES VESSEL TO RESCUE CARGO SHIP REPORTED SINKING IN CATANDUANES

Philippines - Naval Forces Southern Luzon of the Philippine Navy dispatched BRP Heneral Antonio Luna (PG 141) to help the search and rescue of M/V Sun Spirit a Chinese registered Vessel reported listing and sinking at the vicinity 34 neutical miles of Binoog PT , Catanduanes last January 22 , 2012 . The said vessel is owned by PHILHUA Shipping and manned by Chinese crew.

The navy immediately reistrict sponded to the call for humanitarian assistance request of Coast Guard District Bicol for availability of air and floating assets. Coast Guard District Bicol initially nrecieved the distress call and request for assistance . Southern Luzon Command also dispatched early that morning two (2) Huey Helicopters from Tactical Oprrations Group 5 to assist in search and rescue operations.

Humanitarian and Dissasters Assistance Operations which include search , rescue and relief are among the priotiry missions , apart from a primary role conducting maritime security operations said Commodore Abraham F Celso AFP Commander of NAVFORSOL.
