The passage of the Armenian Genocide bill in the French Senate means that the issue transfers to the legal-political field, which can be more effective for the Armenian side than the process of international recognition, Ashot Melkonyan, Director of the Institute of History of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, told a press conference.

According to him, the adoption of bills criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial by different countries may serve as a firm basis for starting the reimbursement process, which official Ankara avoids.

“If the Armenian-Turkish protocols were ratified, they would prevent the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide,” he said.

Touching upon the Sochi meeting, Ashot Melkonyan noted that “despite the non-constructive position of Baku, the process of peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict continues thanks to the efforts of the mediators.

According to him, Azerbaijan is well aware that the military solution can be destructive for them. That is why Ilham Aliyev does not rush to refuse from the Minsk Group format.
