A teenager watched on in horror as her mother collapsed and died in a ski slope chair lift in the Southern Alps. Jade Ramsden and her mother, Cheryl Fairbrother, were going up Monetier’s L’Yret at Serre Chevalier, when Cheryl suddenly became ill.
Emergency services tried to resuscitate the stricken skier but to no avail and she died before reaching hospital. Cheryl was on a skiing holiday with her partner of 25 years, Stephen Ramsden. They were combining their holiday with visiting their daughter Jade who works in the French ski resort of Serre Chevalier.
Stephen and Jade Ramsden are said to be devastated by Cheryl's sudden death flew back to the UK to be with their family over the weekend. Stephen and Cheryl have one other child, Matt Ramsden, who was not on holiday with them.
Mr Ramsden, a mechanic, was skiing on another slope nearby when Cheryl collapsed. The couple lived in Mytholmroyd where neighbours and friends are in shock at the news of Cheryl's death.
Cheryl was treated by first-aiders at the top of the slope and picked up by a helicopter that flew her to a nearby hospital. Cheryl died before arriving and it is suspected that she died of a heart attack.
