Ex boxing champion turned promoter, Ricky Hatton, has told boxer Amir Khan to avoid Floyd Mayweather at this time. Hatton told The Star on Sunday that Khan should put off all thoughts of meeting Mayweather for the foreseeable future.
Hatton believes that Mayweather would be just too good for Khan at present. Khan has made it known that he would like to fight Mayweather as soon as possible. Khan recently caused uproar in the boxing world when he accused the ringside judges of skullduggery after his controversial loss to Lamont Peterson last month.
Hatton was himself twice defeated by Mayweather and feels that Khan needs to get back on track with a few wins under his belt before taking on the might of Mayweather. Hatton told the Star on Sunday:
"'I think a Mayweather fight would be too soon for Amir,' he told the Star on Sunday. 'He is just coming off a defeat and does he really want to fight the No 1 fighter right now or later this year?"
Meanwhile Amir Khan's training partner Manny Pacquiao is set to fight Mayweather in a proposed May 5 fight to determine who is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
