The Department of Education has mandate to make quality education accessible to all Filipinos and inclusive of all learners.
As part of it the Department of Education will create an education program for the indigenous people in the counrty. “The indigenous people shall take the lead in planning, implementing and monitoring activities related to the programs and activities created by their office”, Education Secretary Armin Luistro said.
On the Republic Act 8371 or known as the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act of 1997 mandates government agencies to recognize and promote the rights of Ips within the frameworks of national unity and development. In relation to this the DepEd is task to develop and recommend policy standards and actions to DepEd management to enhance its implementation of education initiatives.
To promote the education program for the indigenous people the DepEd will work with the non-government organizations, national government agencies, civil society groups, corporate foundations and academic institutions.
