Suicide & Suicide attempts increased to 22.5% high in Greece since 2009: Report

ATHENS: Ministry of Citizen Proction of Greece said that the suicide rate and the suicide attempts have seen a high rise of 22.5% in the country since 2009.

According to the details the Ministry of Citizen Protection presented a report to the Greek parliament on last Wednesday in which it said that the number of suicides and attempted suicides were 507 in 2009, its jumped from 507 to 622 in 2010 and in the last year of 2011 these attempts were 598 until the December 2011. So the ratio increased to 22.5%.

The presented report in the parliament also urges the relevant welfare authorities to look into the issue as a matter of emergency, underlining the phenomenon as a major social hurdle.
