Iran sentences American ex-Marine to death for spying [RT]

The US naval strike group is strengthening its presence in the Arabian Sea in the wake of escalating tensions between Iran and the US. The USS Carl Vinson has arrived even as Iran plans to carry out its military exercises in the Persian Gulf with threats of blocking the Strait of Hormuz which is a major transit route for oil from Iran.

USS Vinson is stationed there for the Operation Enduring Freedom.

Tension is mounting as Iran points fingers of accusation at the US over the murder of one of its nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan in Tehran while the US has denied any role in the incident.

Another point of contention is the death sentence imposed on Amir Mirzai Hekmati, a US person by the Iran court – he has been accused of being a CIA spy in Iran.
