L’arc en Ciel Theatre Group to present Oliver
LCTG Directors Paul and Angie Lowe will be presenting the musical Oliver, opening Friday, January 20, 2012, with continuing dinner theatre shows Sundays and Fridays, January 22, 27, 29, February 3, and February 5. The play will be staged at the Great Oaks Banquet Hall of Cedar Lake, IN.
Oliver, as a musical, made its debut on Broadway in 1960. The book, music and lyrics were written by Lionel Bart, veteran writer of screen and stage. Even though Oliver has a large children’s cast, the story reaches beyond simply entertainment to tell the story of thievery, poverty and social injustice that was prevalent in many levels of English society during the middle 1800’s. Heart and a touch of compassion have been added to Fagin, which make him more of a comedian and less of a serious villain. The well-known musical contains some of the most memorable tunes, namely Food Glorious Food, I’d Do Anything, Consider Yourself, Where is Love? and more.
The story revolves around Oliver, portrayed by Aaron Cappello and Nancy, protrayed by Shannon Becker. After running away from the orphanage run by the heartless Mr. Bumble (Bruce Jung), Oliver meets the Artful Dodger (Brandon Kratkoczki) and is recruited to pick pockets for Fagin (Steven Becker). There, Oliver finds a friend in Nancy, but neither she nor the boy is fit for a life of crime.
The cast list for the show includes Steven Becker--Fagin, Shannon Becker--Nancy, Bruce Jung--Mr. Bumble, Leslie Evans--Widow Corney, Greg Grafton--Mr. Sowerberry, Linda Slankard--Mrs. Sowerberry, Aaron Cappello--Oliver, Brandon Kratkoczki--Dodger, Jason Moon--Bill Sykes, Hope Johansen-Bet, Brandon Denton--Noah Claypoole, Sarah Denton--Charlotte, Rich Wotkun--Mr. Brownlow, Tim Anderson--Dr. Grimwig, Rea Robinson--Mrs. Bedwin, Brett Balicki--Toby, Dylan Foster--Duff, Jackson DeLisle--Charlie, Austin Traina—Teddy and a host of Orphans, Pickpockets, and adults, which features Sydney DeLisle, Sammy Bredar, Hayley Kwasniewski, Lisa & Joie Mulligan, Ella Moon, Aira Robinson, Alex Kouris, Christine Powers, Jeannie Magnant, Claire Kijewski, Jacob Gardner, Sara Yardley, Danny LaTulip, Gareth Keeble, Cameron Jung, Amy and Amanda Prince, Emma Hansen, Hannah Souronis, Amanda and Chris King.

LCTG first did Oliver in 1977 with an all high-school cast. Now, at last, we get to use an age-appropriate cast. L’arc en Ciel Theatre Group has been doing kids shows in the spring these past 3 years but this year they decided to do Oliver to feature most of those same mainstay kids, plus their dear friend Steve Becker and his wife Shannon, along with newcomer to our stage Leslie Evans as the Widow Corney, and Cedar Lake’s "regular" Linda Slankard as Mrs. Sowerberry, plus 2 of our lead grads (from the 80's!!!) Bruce Jung stars as Mr. Bumble and Greg Grafton (also one of our set designers!) as Mr. Sowerberry. '94 LCTG grad Jason Moon as Bill Sykes. The play also features
several mother/daughter "teams", a father/son duo in Bruce Jung and his son Cameron, and a father daughter duo (Jason and Ella Moon)!
