Officials examine a police car damaged in violence in Nuevo Leon in January

There were five severed human heads found in various locations of the northern city of Torreon in Mexico. The corresponding torsos are yet to be located.

Each of the severed heads was packed in a black bag and had accompanying messages that revealed that these were drug land murders. These deaths appear to be a fallout of the ongoing fight between two major drug cartels of the ‘Guzman’ gang and the Zeta gang.

After President Felipe Calderon took over office five years back, he has intensified the army-led crackdown on the drug cartels and it is believed that over 46,000 persons have lost their lives in encounters with the army and skirmishes among gangs.

Mexico has, of late, been associated with drug land violence and this is yet another example of how difficult it is to keep the drug mafia under control – they exploit the fear element.
