Mexico Opens World's Tallest Bridge Cables
Mexican President Felipe Calderon inaugurated the opening ofthe Bridge Baluarte the cable-retaining bridge (cable-stayed) the highest in the world.
Bridge with a height of about 400 feet above the valley of the Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains are located between the City of Concordia, Sinaloa and Durango Pueblo Nuevo. This bridge isa connecting Durango-Mazatlan highway.
The Mexican government took four years from February 2008 tocomplete the bridge by 12 concrete pillars. Two pole toweringabove the bridge support steel cables with a length to 520 metersinto the retaining bridge.
Inauguration 1124-meter long bridge is done directly by theCalderon on Thursday (05/01/2012) local time. The inaugurationis both a commemoration of 200 years of Mexicanindependence. "It became a project that unites people in northernMexico that had never happened before," Calderon said as reported by The Sun.
