In Anand Ashram we can find more than 300 meditation techniques which facilitate whosoever wishing to take the journey within. The journey’s destination is our “self” and these techniques are to help us rediscover Ananda or Bliss within—which is, in fact, never lost. It is right there in the deepest recess of our being.

Out of those techniques Anand Krishna, founder of Anand Ashram Center for Meditation and Holistic Health, has also tailored another very particular programs. They are Stress Management, Neo Zen Reiki, Neo Self Empowerment, Neo Sufi Exercise, Neo Kundalini Yoga and Sufi Mehfil. Ashram runs these programs daily.

Neo Self Empowerment is scheduled for Tuesdays at Anand Ashram, Sunter, in north Jakarta. It begins at 7 pm. Today’s session, 3rd January 2012, was led by Dian Martin, one of Ashram’s meditation facilitators. He started that evening meditation session with a story as to reinstate that bliss is hidden deep within every being of man.

Once upon a time, Dian related, Maha Dewa ordered gods to conceal bliss from men by hiding it on top of the highest mountain. But, easy it was for men to discover. And so was it when it was secreted down into the deepest ocean. The gods got confused and distracted, for wherever Bliss was hidden men had always succeeded to have it back.

They were exhausted of ideas on how to deal with men’s aptitude in rediscovering the lost bliss until Maha Dewa’s son came up with the trickiest one. He kept the idea for himself and decided to descend on earth to execute his that he thought the best. And it worked, because for centuries men had never succeeded in regaining bliss. The gods were anxious to find out where he had concealed it. “I have concealed Bliss within men’s own being,” so told the son of Maha Dewa.

Dian concluded that such is our state of being. We often forget what we have. It is like someone wearing sunglasses but gets the feeling of losing them. Then there is another person or a mirror which makes him or her realise the glasses are right in his/her eyes. We think as though bliss were lost and thus search it by any means. We have sufficed all our needs we fancy can make us happy. However, happiness and bliss seem to never come in the way of our quest.

“We forget that bliss is there within, never strays. What happens to us is because of our own ignorance. We never look within,” said Dian Martin.

The next moment Dian guided those frequenters into journey within. Each was absorbed in meditation exercise. As usual, the session was ended with sharing of experience among the participants.

Beautiful surprise

Quite unexpectedly Anand Krishna entered the meditation hall. The participants clapped their hands and rejoiced at having sudden presence of him. He took turn to share his thoughts which, as it is always his typical style, alternated with relevant but soul-enriching story and anecdote. Anand’s presence and spontaneous jokes did bring lively atmosphere. All went, as it always does, by way of Anand Ashram—joyful and celebrating.

Everyone was happy, yet was home with joy. For meditation practitioners, this very joy is something to carry while having daily routines till next week’s Neo Self Empowerment session. Indeed, with empowered self and joyful being one is surely enjoying a more meaningful life. All owe Anand Krishna for having provided the facility for whomever desiring to live life as such.
