Thank you to all writers who participated in Allvoices' "2011 Memories, 2012 Dreams" competition.
When crafting the contest, we chose a theme that we hoped would inspire a variety of responses, and we hoped for articles that would take a fresh look at where we've been and where we're going.
Although many articles achieved took this approach -- and some did so extremely well -- one article stood out from the rest as refreshing, unique, concise, original and inspiring.
In "There's still hope: How the economic troubles of 2011 can inspire us in 2012," Bay Area writer T-Lon managed to take on that ever-depressing topic -- the economy since 2008 -- and find the hope we all thought we had lost in our despair.
Through well chosen and well researched examples, T-Lon asks us to remember our own capacity to effect change and supportthose less fortunate than us. Rather than tell the traditional gloom-and-doom story of the economy, she builds a case for a different perspective, one that looks straight at adversity and proclaims that we will defeat it.
For her extraordinary article, she will be awarded an iPad 2.
Thank you again to all the writers who contributed to this contest and made it such a great collection of articles. You can read all of the entries here, and be sure to check out the list of weekly winners and runners up. They all deserve a good read.
This contest has now come to a close, but we're excited to announce our next one: The American Pundit. If you're already a writer with Allvoices, expect an email about the contest soon. If you're not, or you just can't wait, be sure to check out the press release.
