The fire at Torres del Paine National Park that began on Tuesday

A forest fire in the Bio Bio region of Chile has destroyed more than 57000 acres of land covering an area of roughly 230 square Km and taken a toll of a 75-year old man who refused to vacate his house. Nearly 32000 acres (130 sq Km) have been burnt down in the Torres del Paine national park in Patagonia.

Fingers of suspicion are pointed towards an Israeli tourist who is believed to have started the fire due to carelessness – but he is denying the allegations.

If he is found guilty, he would face a fine of $300 maximum and 6-months in prison - too small a penalty for a crime of such a huge magnitude.
