News sources Yahoo Sports and Associated Press. Louisville Kentucky. University of Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino said in a press conference Tuesday he does not plan to coach college basketball after his current contract with the university expires in the end of the 2016-2017 college basketball season ends.

Pitino has coached college basketball at Providence College and the University of Kentucky before he landed his present job at Louisville college basketball program. Pitino is the only men's college basketball coach to take three teams to the men's basketball tournament Final Four.

Although Pitino did use the word retirement in his press conference he said due to his age he has taken the train of thought of living in the present and look into the future long term. He has sold his train of thought to his players.

The Louisville Cardinals next basketball game is Wednesday versus Georgetown University on Wednesday.
