On Friday, the eve before Christmas eve, Police say a 3-year-old male toddler killed a 5-year-old child in a suburb near Denver--a "family friend" to the home was arrested Saturday for child abuse due to the tragedy, according to Reuters.
Details are a bit sketchy and will be updated as released, but so far it is clear the shooting took place in Lakewood, Colorado.
According to a written release by Bonnie Martin, a police spokeswoman, a call was made to law enforcement on Friday telling them a shooting took place at an apartment complex.
Upon arrival to the dispatched address they found a 5-year-old with a gun shot injury in the chest--but have not released the gender at this time.
The 5-year-old child was pronounced dead at the nearby hospital, Martin reported.
A 23-year-old named Adam Dean Laham, is the man who was taken into custody and charged with death and criminal negligence in the alleged case and has a $40,000 bond against his release, said the local sheriff's department.
Martin is releasing very little information on the case thus far, but did say the shooting was an accident, and Laham who resides in Kansas was visiting the home and is considered a "family friend."
Police do not believe Laham was related to either child, and it was not disclosed whether the two children were related to each other.
