Pittsburgh, 24 Dec., 2011:

American President Barack Obama has put his presidential seal on a bill that honors all those who perished in the Sept. 11 attacks.

The victims will accordingly be honored with congressional medals comprising of three gold medals and duplicate bronze keepsake medals which will be up for sale for the public.

It was on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 that Obama signed the Fallen Heroes of 9/11 Act. The congressional gold medals each made of different designs will be struck by the Treasury for the 9/11 sites.

The said sites are Pennsylvania’s Flight 93 National Memorial, New York’s National September 11 Memorial and Museum and the Pentagon Memorial in Washington, D.C.

It may be noted that the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania was built as a tribute to the victims of United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in Shanksville. Its a countryside area, located southeast of Pittsburgh.

Gordon Felt, President of Flight 93, in a statement released yesterday after the signing declared "The Flight 93 families are grateful to President Obama for signing into law the Fallen Heroes of 9/11 Act."

"This is a wonderful holiday present for those of us whose loved ones lost their lives in freedom's name, and for all Americans," he added.

Felt lost his brother in the crash in which 40 passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 were killed, after it was high-jacked by terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001.

It was during the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that the Flight 93 National Memorial was dedicated at the crash location in Stonycreek Township.

It was due to the tireless work of Pennsylvania Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey and Reps. Mark Critz and Bill Shuster that helped in the passage of this bill, opined Felt and so added “we are deeply thankful."

Also Felt informed that the proceeds from the sale of the bronze medals will hopefully help to cover the cost of making the gold medals, while the bronze duplicates will be "revenue neutral," he informed.

Further according to him there was no estimate when the medals would be struck, with the next phase being the design phase, he added.
