Source: University of Akron will hire former Auburn coach Terry Bowden

News sources Wikipedia, and Associated Press. A source close to the negotiations told the Associated Press former University of Auburn football coach Terry Bowden who is the son of former Florida State Univerisity football coach Bobby Bowden will introduced as the new University of Akron football coach.

The source spoke to the Associated Press on the condition because the university has not officially made the announcement of Bowden's hiring. ESPN was the first source to report th hiring of Bowden as the new football coach at Akron.

Bowden for the last three season has coached football at the University of North Alabama which is a Division II school after he did not coach football for ten years. Bowden won his first 20 games at the University of Auburn when he took over a football program that was on probation, Bowden resigned in the middle of the 1998 football season after the football program started at 1-5.

The University of Akron terminated their football coach Rob Ianello after two seasons in which the Zips had a 2-22 record and won only one Mid-American Conference game.

Bowden in the three seasons at North Alabama has taken the team to the playoffs three times.
