Intel is all set to launch innovative technology that allows you to boot up your computer from a distance and retrieve needed content such as business documents and music files.
The technology is called Remote Wake Technology and will initially be available only with select motherboards. It will allow home computers to be roused from sleep mode for incoming VoIP calls as well as the streaming of video, files and camera feed. The technology is already pervasive in the server processor arena and it was inevitable that it would make the leap to the consumer market.
Intel is hopeful that this will make computing more energy-efficient. It will encourage users to leave their computers is a passive sleep mode knowing that content is still retrievable on demand even while the consumer is on the move.
Intel representatives also expressed hope that in the near future people could expect their computers to attend to tasks with minimal monitoring.
