Belfast has dropped its earlier tag of being a location not good for tourists – the wars are over and, on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of Titanic, Belfast is now preparing to extend a hearty and warm welcome to tourists. It may be remembered that the super luxury ship Titanic sank on its maiden voyage after striking an iceberg on 15th of April 1912 – a total of 1517 lives were lost in the tragedy.
The Titanic was built in Belfast’s Harland and Wolff shipyard, and the authorities want to capitalize on this golden opportunity – it expects an increase of 20% in tourist traffic during 2012. The fare on offer would have Titanic Tours, Titanic Ales etcetera apart from various other attractions that are being worked out.
