It is always a sad thing, the passing of a person. It’s even sadder if the person is still at a young age. Former Miss Venezuela Eva Ekvall died last Saturday after her long struggle with breast cancer. She was only 28 years old.
Ekvall’s fight with breast cancer was closely followed by her countrymen. She was crowned Miss Venezuela back in 2000 when she was still 17 years old. She then became the third runner up for Miss Universe that same year.
After her Miss Universe stint, Eva went on to become a model, and actress and a TV news anchor. She even wrote a book chronicling her struggle with cancer titled "Fuera de Foco" (Out of Focus). Her family released a statement last Sunday that Eva’s remains will be cremated in Houston. But the service will be held in Venezuela once they arrive back from the United States.
Eva leaves a 2 year old daughter and a husband, radio producer John Fabio Bermudez. May she rest in peace.
