The US congress passed a mammoth trillion dollar spending bill which includes restrictions on aid to Pakistan, Egypt and Palestinian Authority.
The spending bill approved by Senate and by the House of Representatives forestalls an impending shutdown of Federal government services. The bill allocates $850million for Pakistan’s military to develop counter-insurgency capabilities to fight militants within its borders. The money allocated for the purpose is less than the $1.1billion President Obama requested for the fund.
A defense bill passed by Congress proposes to freeze 60percent of the amount allocated until the US defense secretary provides lawmakers with assurances that Pakistan is countering improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
