The US Justice Department is challenging Alabama's immigration law

The governor of Alabama, Robert Bentley, said Friday that he is working with legislative leaders to clarify and simplify the state's rigid immigration law.

It seeks to remove unnecessary burdens on residents and businesses and protect the legal services provided by churches while ensuring that everyone working in Alabama are legally in the state.

Bentley said he hopes to have the project ready for the next session, which begins in February.

Birmingham Corporate Alliance and other business chambers have said that the law undermines the international image of Alabama.
